Experience the artistry and innovation of Scotland’s rising silversmiths in ‘New Traditions’, a unique exhibition showcasing the latest works of Hannah Keddie, Katie Watson, and Scott Smith—the inaugural tenants of The Marchmont Silversmithing Workshop.
This event marks the midpoint of their residency, offering a reflective look at their evolving journey as makers. From initial maquettes and experimental samples to fully realised works created from 2024 onwards, the exhibition provides an intimate glimpse into their processes of investigation, development, and craftsmanship.
Drawing inspiration from Scotland’s landscapes, wildlife, and cultural heritage, these silversmiths present a dynamic blend of tradition and modernity:
Katie Watson transforms her woodland, coastal, and mountainous explorations into intricate jewellery and silverware through chasing and repoussé techniques, creating nature-inspired wonderlands.
Hannah Keddie celebrates the ocean’s flora and fauna, reimagining and merging species’ visual attributes to craft tactile, imaginative silver creations.
Scott Smith honours Scotland’s artisanal heritage, infusing Pictish and Celtic influences into his contemporary silverware, blending functionality with artistry.
‘New Traditions’ is more than an exhibition; it’s an exclusive opportunity to immerse yourself in the evolution of contemporary silversmithing, where exploration, experimentation, and tradition converge to shape the future of the craft.
