Being on the cusp of something new is both exciting and unsettling, provoking a rollercoaster of feelings and emotions. It relates to the concept of liminality, which comes from the Latin word "limen," which means transformation or transition, and illustrates how humans sometimes find themselves in transitional spaces, on the verge of something new, attempting to balance both familiar and unfamiliar personal and professional identities.
This new collection of work was completed throughout the two-year period of studying for an MSc in Art Psychotherapy. Much of the work was completed while undertaking an artist's residency at the Tyrone Guthrie Centre in the spring of 2022–24. The mixed media pieces, which integrate both words and images, tell an intensely personal story about how I have come to develop my professional identity as an artist while on the journey to becoming a qualified art psychotherapist.
