A vibrant group of Edinburgh-based textile designers are getting together to showcase their bold, sustainable, and design-led creations. The collective features the unique talents of Kathleen Moodie, Mairi Brown, Fiona McIntosh, and James Donald, each bringing their distinct vision and craftsmanship to the forefront.
K.Moods by Kathleen Moodie offers an explosion of colour with her boldly designed knitted clothing and accessories. Committed to the principles of slow fashion and zero-waste production, Moodie creates pieces that are as sustainable as they are striking, combining clashing colours with comfortable knits.
Mairi Brown draws inspiration from the natural world, incorporating animal and botanical imagery into her free machine-embroidered designs. Her collection includes soft furnishings, corsetry-inspired garments, and small accessories, all characterised by intricate details and a deep connection to nature.
Working from an old lemonade factory in Edinburgh, Fiona McIntosh channels her passion for mid-century design into her hand-dyed and hand-screen-printed fabrics. Each piece is a testament to her meticulous craft, offering unique printed textiles that blend the past with contemporary style.
James Donald who goes under the label of PickOne, is a hand weaver whose work is heavily influenced by traditional Japanese textile techniques, including boro boro and sashiko stitching. By integrating these methods with various recycling philosophies like zanshi, Donald creates distinctive woven pieces that add a touch of artistry to both personal and home environments.
Together, these designers represent the cutting edge of sustainable and innovative textile design, offering a diverse range of products that are both beautiful and environmentally conscious.
