Hussain Akrad is an artist from Daraa, Syria who now lives in Edinburgh. He graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts, Damascus University in 1973 and worked as an arts teacher in Daraa for over 30 years. Hussain is a member of the Syrian Plastic Artist’s Union and has participated in exhibitions in Syria, Algeria and Lebanon, winning prizes and honours for his work. In July 2019, he participated in ‘Lives in Transit’ exhibition in Edinburgh. He enjoys painting and drawing to share important messages about humanity and his own experiences of the war and displacement in Syria.
