KENRIS MACLEOD

MEET THE ARTIST….

Kenris MacLeod is a textile artist who joined Coburg House in August 2023. She previously worked as a BBC radio producer for 15 years before swapping sound for visual art, taking voluntary redundancy in 2008 and going back to art college. It was there that she discovered freemotion embroidery, otherwise known as “painting with thread” using a sewing machine. All her work is freehand and no computerisation is involved.

Her work uses this medium to describe the textures and complexity of the natural world – in particular, trees. Using the sewing machine needle as a pencil or a paintbrush, her often complex compositions combine repetitive forms and abstract shapes with elemental natural imagery, connecting us to our ancient roots and tapping into a memory that is almost, but not quite, lost.

Kenris exhibited at the prestigious inaugural Scottish Landscape Awards in Edinburgh’s City Art Centre and has regularly shown work at the Royal Scottish Academy with Visual Arts Scotland and the Society of Scottish Artists, of which she is a professional member. Kenris regularly undertakes commissions and her work can be found in private collections all over the world.
